G I Jamie: making coding curriculum fun for primary school teachers

GI Jaime is an online learning platform that teaches coding to primary school students and teachers. Learning to code is part of the digital curriculum, has been identified as a key ‘21st century’ skill, and one that primary school teachers often have no experience or confidence teaching.

Key points

  • A scaleable primary school coding resource
  • Joint runner-up, 2019 EduGrowth Business Start – Business Plan Competition

GI Jaime provides content, assessments and tools for teachers to track student progress, provide feedback, mapped to the digital curriculum, and at a much lower cost than alternative (and short-term) teacher upskilling.

GI Jamie was joint runner-up in the 2019 EduGrowth LaunchPad Business Start business plan competition. The submission, interview and presentation by David Lee impressed the judging panel consisting of Ryan O’Hare, Pauline Farrell, Warwick Freeland, Georgina McCann and Angelo Nardozza. The judges commenting that it was a great product idea that connects the school and parental focus to practical skills for children. Adding that STEM and kids is a big market.

GI Jamie is the work of David Lee from Monash University.

As joint runner-up of the 2019 EduGrowth LaunchPad Business Start business plan competition, alongside Grasshopper, GI Jamie receives $2,000 to further the business, a one year EduGrowth membership, a one hour mentoring session with an EduGrowth mentor and $10,000 AWS Hosting Credits.
