Real-Classroom Pilot
A new pilot project is underway to explore how StepsWeb, a structured literacy platform, can improve student outcomes in real classroom environments. Delivered through the EdTech Innovation Network (EIN) facilitated by EduGrowth, the project connects StepsWeb with researchers from HEDI at Monash University and innovative Australian schools.
This pilot brings together leading EdTech, academic research, and classroom implementation to:
- Use evidence to show impact on learners
- Partner with schools solving critical teaching and learning challenges
- Evaluate EdTech in authentic settings using rigorous and reliable research methods
- Generate classroom-based evidence on how EdTech can drive improved student outcomes.

About the Pilot Project
Over two school terms, the pilot will assess how StepsWeb develops core literacy skills, including reading, spelling, vocabulary, and comprehension. Students complete pre- and post-assessments, including a world-first Visual Recognition Test which indicates whether students are activating the brain areas associated with genuine reading fluency. Teachers will have access to online training, professional support, and will be encouraged to use the StepsWeb four-tiered intervention model to support diverse learner needs.

StepsWeb provides a structured, inclusive literacy approach that supports a broad spectrum of learners, from those needing intensive support to those ready for advanced challenges. This pilot will generate independent data on how the platform:
- Addresses diverse learning needs
- Improves student literacy outcomes
- Reduces teacher planning workload through targeted intervention pathways
The EdTech Innovation network is a collaborative approach to improving learner outcomes supported by Western Sydney University
Stay tuned as we share updates, insights, and stories from the classrooms at the heart of this exciting pilot.
We look forward to working closely with all our partners to amplify the impact of this important work.
Welcome aboard, StepsWeb and participating schools! 👏
